The short version.
Odd Page History is a one-person archival blog. It does not run a user account system, does not require a login, does not sell anything, and does not maintain a mailing list. The privacy concerns of the average visitor are limited to what your browser tells the server when you load a page, what an analytics service may record about that visit, and what advertising partners (if any are present) may set in cookies. This page describes each of those in plain language.
What I do collect, and how.
When you visit a page on this site, your browser sends standard request information to the host: your IP address, the page you requested, the referring page (if any), the time of the request, and a user-agent string identifying your browser and operating system. This is true of every website you visit, including this one, and is necessary for the page to load. Server logs of these requests are retained for a short period for security and troubleshooting purposes, then rotated.
I use a privacy-conscious analytics service to count page views and identify which articles are read most. The analytics provider does not set cross-site tracking cookies and does not collect personally identifying information. Aggregate numbers (this article was viewed N times this week) are the only thing I use the data for.
What I do not collect.
This site does not require an account, does not have a comment system at present, and does not maintain a newsletter or contact list. There is no form on this site that asks for your email or other contact information. If you write to me at the correspondence address, I will read your message; I will not add you to a list, sell your address, or share it with third parties.
Cookies and similar technologies.
This site itself does not set any first-party cookies for the purpose of identifying you across visits. Your browser may receive cookies from:
- The analytics provider, if used (these are typically aggregate or session-only, not cross-site).
- Embedded media (a YouTube embed or similar) on pages where such media appears. As of this revision, no such embeds are present on the site.
- Advertising partners, if and when ads are served on the site (see below).
Advertising and third-party services.
This archive may, in the future, display advertising served by third-party ad networks such as Google AdSense. If and when ads are served, those networks may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings page, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. Residents of the European Economic Area may withdraw consent for personalized advertising via the consent mechanism that loads with the site, where applicable.
Children’s privacy.
This site is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided information through this site, please contact me at the correspondence address and I will remove it.
Your rights.
If you are in a jurisdiction (such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California) that grants residents specific rights regarding personal information, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal information held about you. As described above, this site holds essentially no personal information about ordinary visitors, but if you have corresponded with me directly and would like that correspondence deleted, contact me and I will do so.
Changes to this policy.
If this policy changes, I will update the revision date at the top of this page. Material changes (for example, the introduction of advertising or a new analytics service) will be noted near the top of the page for a period after the change.
Contact.
Questions about this policy, or requests under it, should be sent to archive@oddpagehistory.com. I read incoming mail and respond to legitimate inquiries.
